Kings Fire Coach Westphal

Update: Paul Westphal fired today as Kings head coach.

“I want to thank Paul for all of his effort on behalf of the Kings,” general manager Geoff Petrie said in the release. “Unfortunately, the overall performance level of the team has not approached what we felt was reasonable to expect. I wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

After starting the season 2-5, amidst the turmoil around DeMarcus Cousins, it seems that the Kings have decided to go a different way.  His firing comes just a few days after ‘suspending’ big man Cousins for issuing a trade demand. However, Cousins has continued to deny any such demand, and was seen back in the lineup after only one game. The timing of the move suggests that the organization sided with its young, talented big man over the head coach.
